Shirley Burke is a little hand-painted ceramic vase that sat on a corner shelf in my parents kitchen for as long as I can remember. It didn't hold flowers though. It always held a pair of scissors and a roll of stamps. As far as my sisters and I can recall it was a gift from someone when my parents left Liverpool, NY to move to Hudson Falls where I was born. It was either from Shirley Burke or reminded my Mom of Shirley Burke who I have never met. When my parents were both gone all I really wanted from the house was Shirley Burke. And here she is. Now with flowers.
