When we were kids my sisters and I would hang our Christmas stockings, which then were just our longest knee socks, and wait to see what Santa stuffed them with. Every year we got an apple or orange , some hard Christmas candy and nuts in the shell. Some years it was Mandarin oranges. Now I buy them for us every winter starting at Thanksgiving. I found these lovelies with the stems and leaves on and had to paint them in my pewter bowl but they are also delicious.
