I came across this guy on a drive through the eastern Brighton farm country earlier this spring. He was in a field with a chestnut mare. He didn't look like much from a distance, maybe an older farm horse. He still had part of his winter coat and looked a mottled darkish off white. I took pictures of him and the mare and didn't even know what he was until I got home and looked at the shots I took. When I zoomed in closer I started to see that the 'mottle' was actually a pattern that turned out to be some Appaloosa with a Varnish Roan coloring. He also has some Quarterhorse in him , but Old Appaloosa Quarterhorse Varnish Roan seemed a lot for a title, so to me he is just, OG the Varnish Roan. Once again I loved painting and learning so much about him.
